The Supreme Court has ruled a federal law that takes away early parole violates the rights of prisoners sentenced before the law came into effect.
The case involves Christopher John Whaling, a Vancouver arms dealer who was convicted of three gun offences.
When Whaling applied for accelerated parole, he was told he was no longer eligible for the program.
