Stephen Harper, Peter MacKay in Scarborough for 'announcement'

In his first public appearance since the House shut down for the week-long constituency week, Prime Minister Stephen Harper is expected in Scarborough today, where, alongside Justice Minister Peter MacKay and local MP Roxanne James, he'll deliver an otherwise unspecified announcement at the Chinese Cultural Centre.

Later today, he's slated to "deliver remarks" at a similarly unspecified evening event at the Royal Ontario Museum.

Elsewhere in the Greater Toronto Area, International Trade Minister Ed Fast teams up with Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters president Jayson Myers to hold a 'Go Global' export workshop in Oakville.

Meanwhile, New Democrat Leader Tom Mulcair continues his West Coast tour with a swing through the COwichan Valley, where he's slated to drop by the Cherry Point Winery this morning.

Back in Ottawa, Liberal finance critic Scott Brison hits the stage at the National Press Theatre, where he will, according to the notice, discuss "government advertising".

Also on the Hill media circuit today: Canadian Taxpayers Federation president Aaron Wudrick joins forces with the organization's beloved mascot, Porky the Waste-Hating Pig, to host the 17th annual Teddy Waste Awards, a "black tie ceremony" that highlights government waste at the municipal, provincial and federal level.

  • Fisheries Minister Gail Shea joins her Prince Edward Island counterpart Allen Roach at the Atlantic Police Academy in Slemon Park, where the pair will share the details of a new partnership with Holland College.
  • In Quebec, meanwhile, International Development Minister Christian Paradis doles out fresh federal support for an "innovative business incubator" to help Thetford MInes-area businesses diversify away from the chrysotile sector, while Infrastructure Minister Denis Lebel brings glad tidings to "several Quebec City enterprises," including EddyFI NDT Inc.
  • Moving west to Winnipeg, Canadian Heritage Minister Shelly Glover shows her government's support for the Manitoba Museum.
  • Finally, Minister of State for Multiculturalism Tim Uppal outlines a "significant" instalment of federal cash earmarked to boost clean technology jobs n Edmonton, while Associate Defence Minister Julian Fantino unveils "new investments" in 4 Cold Wing Lake.
