MPs on the House public safety committee are set to hold a one-hour session later this morning to get a briefing from RCMP Commissioner Bob Paulson on the ongoing investigation into the Oct. 22 attack on Parliament, which is expected to include the first public airing of the short video message filmed by slain shooter Michael Zehaf-Bibeau.

Both the hour-long meeting and the presentation of the video are set to take place in public.

Elsewhere in the capital, Finance Minister Joe Oliver drops by the Manning Networking Conference, where, alongside Questerre Energy president Michael Binnion and former Ontario PC candidate Robin Martin, he'll discuss "strengthening the confidence of taxpayers and investors."

Other high-profile speakers on the MCNC schedule today:

  • BC Premier Christy Clark, Yukon Premier Darrell Pasloski and Alberta Premier Jim Prentice, who will talk "energy, environment and the economy" with conference founder and namesake Preston Manning.
  • Industry Minister James Moore, Treasury Board President Tony Clement, Google Canada representative Colin McKay and political strategist Rick Anderson, who are set to mull over how technology is changing politics

Before making his way to Ottawa, however, Moore will make an early morning appearance in Toronto, where he'll announce the results of the latest spectrum auction.

Meanwhile, Defence Minister Jason Kenney will lead a welcome party to the Ottawa International Airport to greet the first Canadian Armed Forces "medical contingent" upon their return from West Africa to help prevent the spread of the Ebola virus.

Also out and about today: Minister of State for FedDev Ontario Gary Goodyear teams up with Minister of State for Science Ed Holder, as well as London-area MPs Joe Preston and Susan Truppe, to unveil new funding for the region and "visit local manufacturers."

Moving west, Minister of State for Social Development Candice Bergen and her Manitoba counterpart, Kerri Irvin-Ross, mark the "official opening" of a new affordable housing complex in Winnipeg.

Finally, Rhinoceros Party Dealer [note: not a typo] Sebastien CoRhino drops by the Centre Block press theatre to launch the party's 2015 election platform.
