Indigenous families and First Nations leaders, senior provincial and territorial representatives will join Aboriginal Affairs Minister Bernard Valcourt and Minister of State for the Status of Women Kellie Leitch for the "first ever" National Roundtable on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, which will get underway at a downtown Ottawa hotel this morning. A parallel "Peoples' Gathering" is slated to take place at Carleton University.

Elsewhere in the capital, Prime Minister Stephen Harper heads to Rideau Hall for the annual Outstanding Achievement award ceremony, which, as explained by the Privy Council Office, is presented by the prime minister himself, and "accords the highest expression of recognition for senior leaders in the Public Service of Canada."

New Democrat Leader Tom Mulcair kicks off his second mini-tour of the Greater Toronto Area in as many weeks by joining local MP Andrew Cash and Toronto City Councillor Mike Layton at the West End Parents Daycare before making his way to Mississauga to take part in Friday prayers at a local mosque alongside New Democrat candidate Fayaz Karim.

Meanwhile, Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau delivers a noon keynote address to the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal.

Back in the Chamber, MPs will while away the final hours before the House shuts down for a week-long constituency break by debating possible amendments to the government's bid to tighten the rules on establishing safe injection sites.

This afternoon, Conservative MP Joe Preston will pitch his colleagues on his private members' proposal to eliminate jail time as a penalty for any offence related to not filling out "mandatory surveys" like the now defunct long-form census.
