ISIS mission update slated for Monday afternoon

Written By Unknown on Senin, 19 Januari 2015 | 21.16

Lieutenant-General Jonathan Vance and Brigadier-General Michael Rouleau — who command, respectively, Canadian joint operations and special operations forces in Iraq — will provide an update on the military efforts against ISIS during a mid-afternoon briefing.

Outside the precinct, meanwhile, Natural Resources Minister Greg Rickford hits the Northern Ontario highway, where he'll make back-to-back funding announcements in Kapuskasing and Hearst.

Also out and about on the ministerial circuit:

  • Minister of State for Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency Rob Moore pays a visit to an Amherst-based tool and die manufacturer, where, alongside Nova Scotia MP Scott Armstrong, he'll outline a new project in the area.
  • Minister of State for FedDev Ontario Gary Goodyear joins local MP John Carmichael at North York-based Celestica, where the pair is scheduled to deliver still more federal funding — in this case, for "medical innovation," specifically, as well as "job creation and growth."
  • Also out and about in the Greater Toronto Area today: Minister of State for Seniors Alice Wong, who will share the details of what the advisory describes as a "significant investment" in research, and "observe a demonstration of technologies designed for seniors" at the AGE-WELL Leadership Workshop.
  • Moving west to Winnipeg, Western Economic Development Minister of State Michelle Rempel demonstrates her government's support for "oil and gas research and development" during a visit to the University of Manitoba, while Minister of State for Science and Technology Ed Holder drops by the University of Alberta for a "national announcement" on new money for research at universities and colleges across the country.
  • National Revenue Minister Kerry-Lynne Findlay hosts a "pre-budget roundtable consultation" in Kelowna.

Elsewhere on the West Coast, former Prime Minister Joe Clark will "discuss his thoughts on Canada's role in world affairs" and read from his book at an evening event in Sidney hosted by Green Party Leader Elizabeth May.

Back on Parliament Hill, Conservative MP Terence Young teams up with Canadians for Safe Technology president Frank Clegg to reveal the "multi-support" he has garnered for his private members' bid to require safety warnings on cell phone and wifi routers.

Also in Ottawa:

Finally, with just one week to go before the House of Commons reopens for business, Liberal MPs are getting set to converge on London, where they will spend two days cloistered behind closed doors during the traditional pre-sitting winter retreat.
