The Western University student charged in a security breach of Revenue Canada's website is scheduled to make his first appearance in an Ottawa courtroom today.

Stephen Arthuro Solis-Reyes, 19, of London, Ont., is charged with one count of unauthorized use of a computer and one count of mischief in relation to data for an incident in which RCMP allege 900 social insurance numbers were accessed via the CRA website.

The CRA temporarily shut down some access to its website late on April 8 in response to security concerns about the Heartbleed bug. A security flaw in its website encryption left some data vulnerable to hackers.

The agency notified the privacy commissioner and the RCMP a few days later, after it says it realized data on the site had been accessed over a six-hour period.
