Public Safety Minister Steven Blaney is in Hamilton today and is expected to announce further efforts by Canada's government to crack down on human trafficking.
Hamilton holds significance in federal efforts to fight human trafficking.
Two years ago, Ferenc Domotor pleaded guilty in a Hamilton court to leading what has been described as the largest human trafficking ring ever uncovered in Canada.
Considered the kingpin of the operation, Domotor was sentenced to nine years in prison. He had pleaded guilty to being part of a criminal organization, conspiracy to traffic in human beings and coercing victims to mislead immigration authorities.
His wife, Gyongi Kolompar, and son, Ferenc Domotor jr., also pleaded guilty and served time in prison.
The three, as well as and more than a dozen associates, were involved in a human trafficking ring that brought as many as 19 young men from Hungary to Canada. The CBC was told the men were brought to Canada against their will, forced to work from dawn to dusk, held in basements and fed table scraps.
