Pauline Marois regrets talking referendum during campaign

Written By Unknown on Minggu, 06 April 2014 | 21.16

With only two days left before the election, Parti Québécois leader Pauline Marois is looking back on her campaign and says if she could do it again, she would speak less about the possibility of a referendum.

"I probably would not answer questions about sovereignty, given the stakes, because we remain the solid choice for government," said Marois.

Throughout the campaign, Marois has refused to elaborate on the details of the PQ's plans for sovereignty, only saying that there would be no referendum until the government believes Quebecers are ready for one.

'"There will be no referendum... as long as Quebecers aren't ready for one," said Marois during the leaders debate on March 20, 2014.

In spite of a new poll out today that again puts the Liberals ahead of the PQ, Marois says she has a strong team and remains confident her party will return to power.

"I am very afraid about the possibility of the return to a Liberal government because I don't think they are prepared, they don't have a team, they don't have the program, [and] they don't have a real goal to present to the population of Quebec," said Marois.

Quebecers go to the polls on April 7.
