The Conservative government has tabled a second bill to implement the federal budget that is expected to be even bigger than the massive 425-page bill from last spring.
Finance Minister Jim Flaherty hasn't offered any tips about what will be in the second bill, other than to say that whatever was in last March's budget that didn't make it into the first omnibus bill will be in this second iteration.
Flaherty is holding a press conference at 10:15 a.m. ET to discuss details of the bill.
CBC News has confirmed some of the measures expected to be in the bill, including that it will include changes to MP and federal worker retirement packages, Meagan Fitzpatrick reported.
Some of the changes expected to be announced Thursday include:
- The age of retirement for new federal workers will rise to 65 from the current 60 years.
- The age at which MPs can collect their full pension will rise from 55 to 65, with an option to collect earlier if they take reduced benefits.
- Increased contributions for MPs will be phased in by 2017.
The precise date for MP pension changes is Jan. 1, 2016. There will be no change to the current eligibility for MP pensions of six years of service.
